For Immediate Release: December 9, 2003 Theatre 2.0 presents The London Tour of BREATH[e] Designed and Directed by Steve Lucas Steve Lucas’ BREATH[e] is one of the most exciting productions I’ve seen in Toronto. It engaged all my senses, and mesmerized me into an altered state of consciousness – in short, it was unforgettable. Atom Egoyan, Filmmaker In January of 2004, BREATH[e] will travel to the London International Mime Festival for 10 shows at the internationally acclaimed Institute of Contemporary Arts. BREATH[e] played to full houses and critical acclaim during its limited run at Toronto’s Theatre Centre during April 2002. An experimental theatrical installation of light and sound, it takes the audience on a sensory journey of the heart and mind; it is a unique, totally subjective, sensual experience. Devised, directed and designed by acclaimed set and lighting designer Steve Lucas, BREATH[e] was awarded a Dora Mavor Moore Award for Set Design. For every person that ventures down this rabbit hole, the experience will shape a different story. Susan Walker, The Toronto Star BREATH[e] is a play with neither words nor performers. Inspired by Samuel Beckett’s famous thirty-second drama, Breath, BREATH[e] is an unforgettable journey through colour and sound, mirroring the flow of energy centres or chakras, positioned along the human spine. Imagine a play that happens to you, not just in front of you; a play where the action takes place inside of your lungs; where the show enters your body, not just through your eyes and ears, but also your mouth. BREATH[e] is an experience that lies between theatre and visual art, music and meditation. BREATH[e] was compelling and unlike anything I'd ever seen, pretty close to a religious experience. James O'Reilly, Writer/Actor Theatre 2.0 is a project-based company established to produce the visually based, radical work of set and lighting designer Steve Lucas, who has designed more than 200 works of theatre, dance, performance art and opera. Other contributing artists are sound designer Steve Marsh, singer/actress Jane Miller and a group of the best builders and technicians that Toronto theatre has to offer. Steve Lucas’ fascinating 30-minute BREATH[e] takes its audience… to the depths. It’s hard not to be drawn into this inspired sound-and-light show…You’ll forget time and just drift along with the breathing...
