Featured news articles about the current production:

When he first got into theatre, designer Steve Lucas was determined to become a stage director. But there was one problem: Actors."I have no idea how to talk to them in a work way, about motivation and emotional reality and all that stuff," Lucas says. So his daring new show BREATH[e] would seem to be the perfect solution. The Toronto Star, April 18, 2002

Though there's no performer to watch, Lucas thinks the show is still sexy and intimate. "It's like someone is breathing right in your ear. As an audience member, you can imagine that the breather is inside of you. At the same time, given the big, empty space you're sitting in, you're inside the breather, too, as in a big cocoon". Now Magazine, April 25, 2002

Wordless, performer-less, and, naturally, prop-less, Lucas's new creation takes the less-is-more approach to creative extremes. But to what purpose? An emotional journey within may unleash experiences and feelings better left dormant. "I think you might find it relaxing if anything," he says, darting me a don't-read-too-much-into-it look. "One of the goals with BREATH[e] this time is to get to a more tranquil place. To take you away for a little. But we'll take you back, I promise. It's not the sort of thing where we leave you hanging." Eye Magazine, April 25, 2002
